Tithi birthday and Star birthday
The Tithi birthday (Janma Tithi) is the day on which your birth tithi prevails at sunrise in the same lunar month as your birth – the custom in most of North and West India. In South India and Kerala many families celebrate the Star birthday (Janma Nakshatra or Pirannal): the day the Moon is in your birth nakshatra during your birth solar month.
Your report gives both, calculated with our Panchang engine for your place of birth, including the rare years with an Adhika (extra) month or a skipped tithi.
How to celebrate
- Bathe early and pray to your family deity and your nakshatra deity
- Visit a temple, offer an abhishek or light a ghee lamp
- Seek blessings from elders and donate food or clothes
- Chant the mantra of your birth-star lord
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Hindu birthday change every year?
The lunar year is about 11 days shorter than the solar year, so a tithi falls on a different English date each year; an Adhika month every two or three years brings it back.
Do I need my birth time?
Yes. The tithi and nakshatra can change during a day, so the birth time and place make the result accurate.
